REVIEW: SUDA Thai, St Martin’s Courtyard

Unless you didn't guess already its been a very busy few weeks at The Young Domestic Goddess. In the last two weeks I have attended six reviews (OMG MY LIFE IS SO HARD, not), and I am definitely looking forward to an evening at home! That said, today's review was very lovely and I am delighted to be sharing it with you.

SUDA opened in the summer of 2011 and is the baby sister restaurant of Patara (which I reviewed last year). At SUDA you are invited into a relaxed environment and chilled atmosphere, whilst you dine on high quality Thai cuisine - specifically sharing bowls and bites. In July SUDA launched the #ShareSUDA campaign to celebrate their new Small Bowls and Bites sharing menu. The menu brings together the greatest hits of Thai street food and is perfect for sharing with friends and family, just as it's done in Thailand. As part of the #ShareSUDA campaign, the restaurant will be offering drinks deals on Mondays and £5 curries on Tuesday's throughout July and August. So go grab yourself a bargain!

Enjoy the rest of the review and let me know if you head to SUDA soon!

Where

SUDA Thai, St Martin’s Courtyard
When
Friday dinner, 8pm-11pm
What We Ate

  • Thai Snacks (Sweet potato crisps), Thai Prawn Crackers, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Goong Sawan (prawns in egg noodles), Gae Yang (marinated lamb chops), Moo Ping (BBQ pork).
  • Gaeng Panang Nua (beef panang curry), Gaeng Garee Gae (mild yellow lamb curry)
  • Kao Niew Mamuang (sticky rice with mango), Gluay Hom Tod (banana fritters)

What We Drank

  • Lemongrass Belini, Thai Mojito, Pandan Mojito, Hendricks Fizz

Highlights
  • The Lemongrass Bellini was very refreshing with warm and sweet notes on the pallet, The Hendricks fizz was an easy to drink long cocktail which we both enjoyed. It had a surprisingly creamy finish!
  • Both curries were rich and well spiced. You could taste the different flavour notes between the two which was encouraging.
  • The spring rolls and prawns in egg noodles were both nice and packed lots of flavour.
  • The sauces alongside the pork and lamb were punchy and explosive with chili

Lowlights
  • The meat in both of the curries was very dry which was really disappointing.
  • Although the sharing dishes concept is good, ordering down to the single spring roll is a bit annoying and actually not good value on certain items

Overall

Though I won't be running back to SUDA it is a nice enough restaurant in a sea of tourist-y locations around Covent Garden. I would recommend the curries and also the cocktails - these were lovely.

Thank-you to SUDA for hosting us. All opinions are my own and have been in no way influenced.
