The sunshine has now left London (sad face) but last week I was treated to a really delightful late-summer picnic from KuPP. The Scandi-inspired casual dining restaurant is offering generous take-out picnic bags, jammed full of Scandinavian treats, taking away all the hassle of shopping, making and packing your own hamper. I enjoyed my fish picnic sat next to the Thames in the blazing sunshine. Think of it like London meets Scandinavia over boxes of delicious grub.
Set at £30, the picnic includes a feast of cold cuts and light salads, including Norwegian salmon gravadlax, ‘hot house smoked’ trout with sides of potato salad, roast beetroot and summer heritage tomatoes. Each delicious piece is packed up in a recycled cardboard box with a clear lid so you always know which delight is coming next.
The fish box featured a small selection of trout and salmon. The two different textures (one cold smoked one hot smoked) made a nice contrast when you got bored of one or the other, however, I would have liked a little more actual fish compared to the amount of veggie salads in the other boxes. The tomato salad also leaked all over my bag which was not ideal in the slightest!
The bread box was packed with white, brown and classic crisp bread to top with the fish and salads. You are also given two mini packets of butter which is just lovely. The first salad box included beetroot, roasted peppers, Swedish cheese and a light, herbal leafy salad to balance the bold veggie flavours. The second box, and my favourite, included a classic Scandi potato salad with dill and red onions, herbed sweet potatoes and even more Swedish cheese. The sweet potatoes sadly had little flavour but the white potato salad was divine!
Overall, for the £30 price tag, I think these picnics are really a good deal. You get plenty of veggies and bread to compliment the fish and the takeaway tote bag is also an added bonus. It would be brilliant if KuPP could add a bottle of drink to enjoy with the Scandi goodies but aside from that, I was very happy.
Thank you KuPP for providing me with the picnic for this review!
