REVIEW: Rossopomodoro, Kingston-Upon-Thames

For today's review I have torn myself away from beloved London and dipped my toe into country living. Well... that's no so accurate! I actually visited Kingston-upon-Thames; technically a London borough, Kingston is situated just South West of central London and offers country living with the ease of London being extra close. One of the icons of Kingston's main town area is the newly renovated John Lewis. Within this store ROSSOPOMODORO have recently opened a new location, boasting floor to ceiling windows with absolutely stunning light streaming through, two large bars, dough preparation area and plenty of seating.
Serving customers authentic Neapolitan breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner seven days of the week as well as popular gluten-free options of pizzas and tiramisu, what sets Rossopomodoro apart is that they are truly Neapolitan. With chefs from Neapolitan pizzaioli families making Neapolitan dishes using ingredients sourced from the Napoli region, you won’t find a more genuine Neapolitan experience outside Napoli. (Apparently). Enjoy the review!

Where
Rossopomodoro, Kingston-Upon-Thames
When
Sunday lunch, from 1pm
What we ate
  • Starter: Burrata with tomato bruschetta
  • Gnocchi in tomato sauce
  • Ribbon pasta with beef and peas
  • Fennel and radish side salad
What we drank
  • Prossecco to share
  • House red wine to finish
Highlights
  • The new John Lewis location is absolutely stunning. The floor to ceiling windows really let in an exceptional amount of light allowing for all-day dining in style.
  • The burrata starter was really refreshing - despite it being a whole cheese. The burrata had a totally creamy inner with a smooth exterior, which worked excellently with the crisp bread and super-sweet tomatoes.
  • I found the deliciously cheesy sauce encompassing the gnocchi was absolutely divine - rich, velvety and a fantastic mix of sweet and salty. The gnocchi were aalso really well cooked and soft.
  • The beef and peas combination was meaty, rich and very classic. The ribbons of pasta were beautifully covered in the velvet-like sauce.

Lowlights

  • As the service got busier certain elements (such as our second glasses of wine) were slower to arrive at the table.
  • I also found the restaurant very hot to sit in (outside it was about 10 degrees so Ihad a fluffy jumper on), which was not very comfortable at times.

Overall
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my time at ROSSOPOMODORO in Kingston. It was a delight to get out of London and enjoy a really authentic Italian cusiine. My highlight was the burrata at the start of our meal; although we had Prosecco at this time I would have been even happier with a large glass of red wine.
